THE MEDINA FAMILY: Two Generations of Farmworking Women

Manuela Medina was born in Los Angeles, California in 1924 and since the age of six worked as a farm laborer throughout California, but primarily in the Central Valley. In 1950, Manuela gave birth to her daughter Jessie, who like her mother, would become a farm worker at a very young age. The Medinas entered the fields as children and left as grandparents and in their lives as migrant workers have greatly contributed to the Valley’s agricultural production. Both women have long left the fields and currently live in Fresno, California.
